THANK YOU AMERICA!!!!!!!!!

And, finally, The Onion headline, "Nation Finally Shitty Enough To Make Social Progress"

WASHINGTON—After emerging victorious from one of the most pivotal elections in history, president-elect Barack Obama will assume the role of commander in chief on Jan. 20, shattering a racial barrier the United States is, at long last, shitty enough to overcome.

Obama's victory is being called the most significant change in politics since the 1992 election, when a full-scale economic recession led voters to momentarily ignore the fact that candidate Bill Clinton had once smoked marijuana. While many believed things had once again reached an all-time low in 2004, the successful reelection of President George W. Bush—despite historically low approval ratings nationwide—proved that things were not quite shitty enough to challenge the already pretty shitty status quo.

It really was the Perfect Storm for Obama. He had a country sick of war, economic crises, high gas prices, shrinking job markets...the list can go on and on. The Republican Party couldn't offer a viable candidate and blundered by insulting the intelligence of women with their VP choice. When George W. Bush landed on that aircraft carrier amid the "Mission Accomplished" banners, I knew right away who those banners were for: the wealthy elite...the top 1%, the war hawks and venture capitalists. The smirk on Bush's face gave it away. He really accomplished his mission, and that was to make a lot of money for his handlers and the corporate interests who ensured his 2 terms in office.

The one thing that worries me about the Obama presidency is how much he will be able to accomplish while the nation hemorrhages from the financial mismanagement of the previous administration? Also, who is Obama beholden to after raising the most money in the history of raising money? My Dad always said 2 things: one, women are like streetcars; there's always another one coming (well he lived in the days of streetcars, what can I say?) Two, if you don't know or can't figure out the answer or reason as to why something happened or someone did something, the answer is almost always money. So, follow the money.

Instead of sending so much money to other foreign interests, whether it be Israel or Africa or anywhere, please take care of our country first. That's all I would ask of this presidency. There are too many people without health care, not enough schools or qualified teachers, not enough hospitals, roads and highways in need of repair, bridges near collapsing, dwindling jobs across the country. Let's invest in our future by finding alternative energy sources, funding public works projects that create jobs and opportunities for those in need. Let's give our children a new crop of teachers and a new learning system rather than the one currently in place that was formulated before WW2. The education systems and opportunities in other countries far surpass our own. We're not even in the top 30.

It would be a shame if the hope now given by President Obama's election was wasted. I'm talking about the hope that anyone truly CAN grow up to be a World Leader. I'm talking about the hope that the rest of the world has in us now that America can change for the better. That America can stop policing the world and enforcing it's "freedom and democracy" onto the rest of the world.

The dollar isn't worth much anymore, folks. Americans aren't always welcomed around the world as heroes or even as friends anymore. China, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Korea own much of the Country's debt. How soon before they lose their faith in the dollar, their faith in America and their faith in us as Human Beings capable of compassion and understanding?

Great comment.

I'd only say that in terms of O's record fund raising, those donations were from small donors -- meaning, folks like you and me. I donated regularly to his campaign.

That means that O is beholden to small donors, folks like you and me.

yeah! The smartest cat in the room got elected. The odds are good that he will at least start to address the issues facing our nation.
Congratulations, President-elect Obama, good luck sir dealing with that Texas sized pile of crap leftover from the previous occupants.
